Printer not working? Start with these checks
Check power, paper, connections and the print queue before reinstalling software.
3 minutes 10 seconds. Narrated video. The key instructions are also written below.
1. Check the printer itself
Read its display, check paper and ink or toner, and follow the manual for any jam. Do not force stuck parts. Try a printer test page to separate a printer problem from a computer connection problem.
2. Check the connection
Confirm cables are secure or that the computer and printer use the intended local network. Some printers require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; check the model’s manual. Restart devices according to their instructions.
3. Review the print queue
Check that you selected the correct printer. A stuck job can hold up later jobs; cancel the affected job and try again. Run the Windows printer troubleshooter if needed. For a managed work printer, contact your IT administrator before changing settings.
4. Use official software
Obtain drivers only from Windows Update or the printer manufacturer’s official support site for your exact model. Avoid download advertisements and unsolicited support numbers. Record the error message if the problem continues.
